3 Ways to Motivate Employees in the Workplace

Having a workforce that are motivated enough to deliver what is expected of them is one of the keys to having a successful business. As such, it is important for business and company owners to find ways to make sure that there is always motivation in the workplace.

1. Recognizing Well-Deserved Employees. Employers must never overlook their employees' good performance. A pat in the back often sends a message that their efforts didn't go unnoticed. More importantly, employees will be encouraged to do their best in the job if they see someone getting recognized or promoted for good performance. After all, nobody wants to get stuck or stagnate in their careers, right? Letting employees know that they are providing incentives for outstanding performers is also one way to motivate them to do even more than what is required of them.

2. Find the Time to Talk to Low-Performers Without Embarrassing Them. While having low-performers in the team can be hugely irritating for employers, it does not give them the right to insult or embarrass them in front of their co-employees. It is always important to deal with the situation in a professional manner. Scheduling a meeting to discuss poor performance with the concerned person should be done. It's good to find out what causes the person to slack in his or her job. Discuss the consequence of poor quality work and what needs to be done to improve it.

3. Establish a Friendly Atmosphere. Maintaining a friendly atmosphere in the workplace is one way to make employees look forward to promptly come to work each day. Once in a while, it is also good to organize a team-building activity for them as this can help create or develop that friendly rapport among them. Team-building activities can be in the form of simple coffee sessions, beach outings, outdoor seminars or office tournaments.

The goals of a business or company are often met because, among other things, they have what it takes to succeed – employees with the right drive and motivation to do things right in the workplace.
