Showing posts with the label kid

looks like the pressure is on us

Upon reaching home, I got excited to show the little girl the printed photo of the 3 of us. I had our family picture printed because she is supposed to do her assignment for tomorrow and that is to paste a picture of her family within the space provided in her Language book. I had it labeled "mother", "father", "daughter" accordingly since, according to her, the teacher verbally instructed to label each member of the family in the picture. At first, she looked really excited to see the photo that she grabbed it quickly from my hand to get a really good view. Suddenly, the happy and excited expression on her face quickly transitioned into a worrisome look. We had to find out why. Almost crying, she said she doesn't want to get a "zero" mark for not being able to provide a picture with a brother or sister in it. I tried to assure her she will not get a "zero" on her assignment because we are only 3 in the family and that she is our

let's give an A for her effort

Since English is not really our first language, we would already consider it a milestone for our preschooler daughter when she tries to converse to us in English. Every time she would hear or learn a new English word, phrase or sentence in school, she wouldn't miss sharing it to us when she gets home. I recalled there was one time when she explained what "empty" meant when she finished her milk and then showed us an "empty" glass. I can't remember exactly when it was that she first understood what empty meant, though. However, I found it kind of funny somehow when my husband shared to me her conversation with our daughter some time the other week. This was what happened. Our little girl told him that she peeped through the door in her classroom to see if her father was outside waiting for her when she's done with her class. She then asked him, " Papa, why were you empty? " and then concluded that perhaps he just went out for a while to buy lun

woke up to the sound of the girl

I woke up a few hours earlier than I intentionally planned today. No, let me correct that. A few minutes before 4AM today, someone woke me up because she needed to attend to the call of nature. I checked our watch and it's still an hour before I would have wakened up to the sound of the alarm clock. Anyway, I love the sound of my daughter waking me up for an urgent need to pee better than that annoying alarm clock. And I also love it that even at an unusually early hour of the day, she had remembered what I told her before that she should tell us any time she feels like going to the bathroom to answer the call of nature. In fact, I am so glad that we never had to put so much effort with potty training. It was like she just realized one day she didn't want to wear diapers anymore or that she thinks she's old enough to wear one. I also realized just how quickly the time has gone by just seeing her getting back to sleep today. Ah, she is getting bigger and taller! Now, I alrea

update on summer school

Lately, I am so happy with my little girl's performance in summer school. She comes home from school with stars stamped on her wrists. Thanks to her teacher who shows appreciation for her diligence, she is motivated to learn how to write alphabets one at a time. I might post photos of her work to this blog soon. She started to become interested to write when she saw her classmates doing the same thing. She also likes it that she gets to wear her dresses to school; although it is such a struggle for her to wake up early. Not really the morning type of person. Anyway, waking up early is a form of discipline for her. Hopefully, she'll get used to the routine.

turned 4 last month

I know I should have blogged about her birthday sooner but I didn't realize we have already moved to the month of April. Anyway, it still feels like we have just celebrated our little girl's fourth birthday. After all, it's only been a couple of weeks ago. Her birthday fell on a workday but it was just so timely that our workload in the office had been quite manageable that we didn't find it really hard to negotiate with our bosses and to arrange for different work schedule that will make ourselves available on her special day. Anyway,  we didn't really throw her a children's party. After all, everyone else is working. Thus, husband and I decided to just celebrate it the simplest way we could. That day started by going to church to attend the thanksgiving mass we offered on the occasion of her birthday. At home, I just cooked spaghetti and ordered a  birthday cake for her.  As our birthday present, we bought her a kiddie bike - something she had been aski
