on grandmother's funeral

Last Saturday, we went to attend grandmother's funeral. It was one hot afternoon but the heat was tolerable since our aunt hired a bus to get us all to the cemetery. We were told that she actually hired two buses; so, me and my family (dad, me and my sister, husband and kid) chose to ride on one bus with less people still on it so we can be comfortably seated. However, after we went a few kilometers and stopped at an unexpected destination, we realized that we didn't know the rest of the people that were on the bus. It was then clear to us that we were on the wrong bus! Thanks to SMS and mobile technology, we were able to communicate with my other two siblings. Fortunately, the bus that they were on was still coming; so eventually, we were able to ride on the right bus. Even in times of mourning, some circumstances such as this happen so that we can see the funny side of life. In fact, I have also recalled that in another funeral we have attended some two years ago, we have als...

on hardware and hardships

Image
What a title, hahaha! Well, we just hit the hardware store today. My handyman husband wanted to change the oil of his motorcycle but he didn't have the tool to loosen its drain plug. Well, he desperately wanted to buy a whole set of wrench tools but we ended up buying only a piece of closed end wrench. It was so tempting to swipe the credit card to buy the whole set for him - after all, I really wanted him to have what he wished for especially because Father's Day is almost near but he didn't want me to do that because it's not really necessary to buy at the moment. When her sister was here, she gave him a monetary gift so he can buy himself some tools but my daughter almost ran out of milk and diapers and we're short of cash at that time, so off the money went to the baby's needs instead. Now, I remember my uncle N when he said he just can't understand why many of us (including himself) would want to get married and end up having a hard time managing ou...

just a hot... hot dog!

[The paragraphs you will read below are from my mommy Diana's journal. Even though she has already joined our Creator, I still feel very much connected to her in many ways, especially because I kept her journals with me. I've always loved her funny and natural way of telling her experiences even though I know that sometimes there are emotional or sad stories behind them, just like this one.. Read on if you are curious. :-)] I was inside a room in a hospital, I wasn't supposed to enter... of course, I can read numbers, have virtually memorized the room I was always visiting and sometimes doing some attendance ... the patient was a dear person in my heart. Naturally, to go back in that room was instinct. I forgot that my patient has insinuated the other day that he will transfer to a very expensive suite 'coz staying there for almost a month was flagellation if he won't transfer. The attending nurse had announced earlier there was now a vacancy on that long coveted...

children and politics

In lieu of the upcoming May 2010 Elections in the Philippines, I thought it would be timely to share this politics anecdote that my mom had wrote in her journal: Did You Or Didn't You ? My husband had run as a candidate in our barangay. Once in a while we got misunderstandings because even then we almost lost our privacy. Now and then, even if we slept, someone knocked on our doors. Others came when we were very busy...just to ask donations and others... quite intentional during the campaign period. "You've not yet seated, you have already too many commitments, how much more if you're elected!" was my comment, shared by my eldest daughter, a 17-year old college student. "Never mind, we, our party agreed to give!" was his reply. After the election, he landed almost at the bottom. In short, he wasn't elected. Since I was not unhappy , my children looked at me with a suspecting eye, " Mom, did you vote for Dad?" :-)

finding humor even in difficult times

Image
Here's another entry from mom's journal of happy moments . I don't know why she found this one funny. Well, back then, she always finds the humor in everything; even in difficult times. Read on below if you want to know the details. Back To The Original  My eldest daughter, a high school graduating student wanted a new pair of shoes. Our remaining budget could not afford to buy her one, except when she has to wait for the next payday. She has caused me confusion when she, on tantrums, demanded immediate replacement when she kicked the worn-out shoe in front of the T.V. set where we were viewing at the time of her need. I really noticed when she kicked them off the floor that there are holes in the soles.
